Sao Tome and Principe At-A-Glance

The Republic of Sao Tome and Principe (STP) is an archipelago 350 km off the west coast of Africa in the Gulf of Guinea, composed of six districts and the Autonomous Region of Pr¨ªncipe (Regi?o Aut¨®noma do Pr¨ªncipe). A Portuguese-speaking country, it has a population of about 225,000 (2021). Classified as lower-middle-income, it is a small island state with a fragile economy, highly vulnerable to exogenous shocks.
